The unintended expat blogger behind Fresh River Mint

Hi, I'm Carlos

I work as a project manager, a parent, and an expat living in Madrid, Spain.

A few years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually opened a new chapter of life abroad.

How It Started

Moving to Spain wasn't part of the long-term plan. Like many expat moves, it started as a work opportunity and soon grew into something much more significant.

The first months were demanding — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks felt heavier than they should.

The Adjustment Period

There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. But gradually, routines took shape. We found places that fit us, met other families, and began building something that felt steady.

Why I Built Fresh River Mint

Most online information was either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family perspective.

This site exists to fill that gap — practical advice drawn from real life in Spain.

What This Site Is (And Isn't)

This site is:

  • Real-world experience gained from living in Spain
  • Centered on family life and everyday realities
  • Updated whenever there is a genuine change

This site is not:

  • Not a tourism authority resource
  • A platform for sponsored reviews
  • Just another generic travel blog

Looking Ahead

Our time in Spain continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as this information remains helpful, I will continue recording what we discover.

If you have questions about family life in Madrid or anywhere in Spain, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Warm regards,

Carlos
